Fishing Black Canyon Lake (#2)

By admin • Apr 28th, 2007 • Category: Fishing Arizona

Since we had such a good time fishing at black canyon lake the prior weekend, we decided to take some friends along for the fun. The weather was absolutley beautiful and we couldn’t have asked for a better day. We arrived at the lake a little after 1pm, set up shop and started fishing. My friend Joe landed a small rainbow trout right off the get go, it was pretty small and he tagged in on the lip so we went ahead a tossed it back. He was trying various spinners when he caught that one. His wife Abby was the next to nail a fish, she was using meal worms with a bobber set up. Overall the fish were not bitting as good as the week before, but when your out in nature, relaxing and doing things you love, then all is good. The surprise of the day was my youngest daughter Rylee caught her first fish. she was getting great distance on her casts and didn’t have any luck until we put a spinner on her line. It was a basic spinner with a gold diamond shape with red dots. She got a great cast and started reeling the line in, when she said “woah, this is getting heavy”. The end result was this beautiful 16″ rainbow trout.ryleefishcropped.jpg

The only other highlight from this gorgeous day of fishing was that I was able to make fire (sort of). I was using one of my daughters ferro rods and was able to land a spark on some charred wood, which I then blew into a white/red hot coal. I took my time and collected some natural grasses from the area for my tinder bundle. I then dropped my coal into my tinder bundle and from there it was easy to blow the tinder bundle into flames. My buddie Joe happened to look over the moment my bundle burst into flames and he stated, “that has to be the coolest thing I have ever seen”. I then spent the next 10 minutes with my friend trying to land a spark on a piece of coal, which just never happened. Oh well, he get it next time we head out into the wilderness.
