Update to fly fishing Woods Canyon Lake
By admin • Aug 13th, 2007 • Category: Fishing ArizonaWell, we did have a good time on the lake, but the fish were staying really far down in the water. My wife was trolling really deep with a spinner with a treble hook, using night crawlers as bait and managed to land a dozen or so rainbows. My eldest daughter was maintaining and keeping track of the wonderful rainbows they were pulling in until my wife asked, “where are the fish?”. My daughter put the latest catch onto the line and failed to secure them so someone got lucky if they found that strand of trout.
My friend Joe caught a couple of good trout using his favorite peacock lady (he catches one everytime on that fly), but fly fishing in the top waters was not helping us out we need to run line really, really deep. Late in the day I finally caught one and it had to be the biggest fish in the lake (hahaha), but it was fun. I did land this killer on one of my first hand tied flys, which was at least somewhat encouraging, since I spend several hours and bunches of money to learn how to tie my own fly. It was a standard zug bug pattern and if you look close enough you can see the fly in one of the pictures, I perfectly landed it right on that little guys lip.

peacock lady works wonder
Trout trolling is the easiest way to catch fish indeed. Sweet that she caught so many. Great job.
